Dubai 3-Day Itinerary
The perfect short break
Three days is enough to see the essential Dubai — if you plan it right. The key is geographic logic: group Old Dubai on one day, modern Downtown on another, and use the final day for the desert. Done correctly, you'll spend your time experiencing Dubai, not crossing it in taxis.
Is 3 days enough for Dubai?
Three days covers the essentials: Old Dubai and the Creek, the Burj Khalifa and Downtown, and a desert safari. You'll miss the Marina, Palm Jumeirah, and the beach — but you'll leave having seen the city's most iconic experiences without feeling rushed. If you have more time, see our 5-day itinerary.
Day-by-day schedule
Each day stays in one geographic zone to minimise travel time.
Day 1 — Old Dubai & Cultural Immersion
Start at Al Fahidi Historic District before 9am — the wind-tower lanes are cool and peaceful before the crowds arrive. Dubai Museum (AED 3) is the best value attraction in the city. Cross Dubai Creek by Abra for AED 1; this 5-minute journey is one of the most iconic experiences in the UAE. Spend the afternoon in the Gold Souk and Spice Souk — negotiate hard, start 40% below asking price. End at Al Seef waterfront for a sunset stroll or book a Dhow dinner cruise (AED 150–350 including food).
Day 2 — Downtown & Burj Khalifa
Book Burj Khalifa 'At the Top' tickets 3–4 weeks in advance — they sell out, especially Dec–Jan (AED 169–595 depending on level; Level 124/125 is best value). Visit at sunset for the full effect. The Dubai Fountain show runs every 30 minutes from 6pm and is completely free from the boardwalk — easily one of the most spectacular free shows on earth. Dubai Mall has a jaw-dropping indoor waterfall and a 10-million-litre aquarium. Dining in this area is expensive; the food court is genuinely good at AED 30–60 per meal.
Day 3 — Desert Safari
Book a reputable desert operator for an afternoon/evening safari (AED 200–350 including BBQ dinner). Most depart around 3pm from Dubai to avoid peak midday heat. Activities include dune bashing in 4x4 vehicles, sandboarding, camel riding, and a campfire dinner under the stars with live entertainment. Avoid morning desert trips between May and September — the heat is genuinely dangerous. This is the experience visitors most regret skipping.
